Travel buddies

"Friends are always friends no matter how far you have to travel back in time. If you have memories together, there is always a piece of your friendship inside your heart." - Kellie O'Connor.

For the first time since I'm in NZ, I have visitors from Malaysia. My sister, who is still here with me, well, she is sticking to me like glue. She is my babysitter. My friends, (Yaya, Ajib and Irda) came to NZ and tour the south island and then took a flight to Wellington to visit me.

I didn't know where to bring them so I thought, let's do something they don't normally do in Malaysia. So I brought them to Penray Gardens to pick strawberries! Strawberries are in season now and they are so fat and juicy!!! Yummy!!!

Then we went to the Lavender Farm because it is nearby Penray Gardens. There weren't that many lavenders yet but they were beautiful nevertheless.

Oh of course we had to make a pit stop at Kapiti Coast. Kapiti is famous for its ice cream. We each got one. It was a cold and windy day but that didn't stop us from enjoying the ice creams! Guess which one is mine?

After two days in Wellington, my friends, sister and I flew to Auckland! We rented a car and went to Hobbiton. That was my second time to Hobbiton but I don't mind going there many times. It's a fun place to be. The funny thing is that, I've never watched the movie "The Hobbits" nor read the books. I watched the first Lord of the Ring movie but didn't watch the sequels. Hahahaha. Okay okay, I'll try to watch them before I graduate. Okay?

Then I took them to Cathedral Cove. At 26 weeks, believe it or not, I went jungle trekking just to get down to the beach. Hahaha. So If I could, you can do it too! Alhamdulillah my friends went back to Malaysia happy (but exhausted). They are actually thinking of coming back to NZ!

Once you see NZ, you'll always want to return back here! It is such a beautiful place. Subhanallah. If this is Earth, I can't imagine how Heaven will look like. May we all get to see Jannatul Firdaus one day. Ameen.

Meeting with a midwife

Alhamdulillah, I found a midwife for us (me and baby)! So our midwife will be looking after me and baby throughout my pregnancy, birthing process and post-natal care up to 6 weeks. I was delighted to have her as my midwife as she is bubbly and cheerful. She seems kind and caring too. She is 60 years old which means she has a lot of experiences. I could have picked someone younger but I think the older the midwife is, the more motherly and experienced she is. Like an academic, a professor who is older is wiser than a new lecturer. Right?

Anyway, I have a blood test & glucose test coming up next week and another meeting with our midwife. I also have to go to antennal class soon. I haven't been to any, OMG! Blame my busy schedule. Hoping everything will turn out fine and most of all, I am counting days until my husband is here. Miss him sooooooo very much. Our midwife said when my husband is here, she will take us on a tour to the delivery suites. Gosh that's exciting! Okay, until then, keep calm and do PhD work. XD

Praying for a smooth pregnancy and birth as well as for a smooth PhD study. Ameen, Ameen, Allahumma Ameen.

Getting back on track

I'm back in Wellington and have to be back on track with my studies. I'm not settled in yet. Still haven't found that perfect house. I did view a few houses but they weren't to my likings. The house was either too dirty, too far or too high up on the hill. Anyhow, I have 2 more houses to view this weekend and many more options will come out later, InsyaaAllah. So hopefully something will turn up well for us. InsyaaAllah.

I  had a supervision meeting yesterday. Just when I thought my research is not interesting enough, my supervisor opened up my eyes to new possibilities. She taught me how to analyze the data and how to think deeply about everything I see and hear when I transcribe the interviews and video observations. It was an eye opener and I fell in love with my research all over again. Having said that, I have to get work done asap. Hoping to get a lot of things done before the little one arrives. Hoping for strengths and diligentness. Ameen.

On another note, Yaya, Ajib and Irda are arriving tonight in Wellington. So I have to play host for 2 days. Now, where shall I take them? Weather forecast says it's going to be windy and cold this weekend. Hmmm... brace yourselves guys! Welly is really cold. Safe flight and see you later.

Have a bless Friday everyone! May Allah grant you your wishes and bestow blessings upon you and your family. Ameen xxx

Craving for strawberries

"Do you crave anything?" I get that question a lot from people around me. Well, I don't know what to say. I don't think I have much cravings but one thing is for sure: I love strawberries so much. I look for strawberries all the time during my first trimester and still eat them regularly on my second trimester.

So I guess that's the answer. I have unbelieveble adoration towards strawberries during this pregnancy. Does that mean my little angel loves strawberries?

A trip to the market and I bought a strawberry punnet.

I also bought mixed berries ice-cream.

Oh and I can't help noticing the beautiful pink wildflowers.

ps: I still haven't found a place. I viewed two houses but both of them are not suitable for a baby, I think. Too much stairs to climb. Hoping to find a suitable one soon. InsyaaAllah.

Back in NZ!

I'm back in Wellington, NZ. Flight was okay. Had a few turbulences but there were small ones so it didn't cause any destruction to my emotions. Hahaha. My sister, Diana and three friends (Yaya, Ajib and Irda) came along so I wasn't lonely on the flight. However, we parted ways in Auckland as they want to tour the South Island. Have fun you guys!

Baby kicked me so many times on the flight. I got worried but I assured myself that she is fine, InsyaaAllah. When I reached Auckland, I was scared I might be stopped at the immigration office for questioning about my pregnancy but Alhamdulillah none of that happened.

I'm missing my husband so much as he is in Malaysia but I tell myself it's only for a month. We can do this!!! Now I am actively looking for a house since I don't have one yet. Right now I'm living with my friend until I get my own house. Hopefully I'll get the house soon! xxx

Pray for me! xxx

Who is your favourite author?

Well, I have a few favourite authors on my list for different kind of genres. For example, my fav fantasy authors are J. K. Rowings, C. S. Lewis and Enid Blyton to name a few. My fav English historical author is Philippa Gregory and my fav romance author is Nicholas Sparks. Today, I just want to express how I love Jodi Picoult's books. If you want a mixture of suspense, mysteries, law and order, psychiatric and psychological insights, pick up one of her books. My most favourite titles are as below:

'My Sister's Keeper', 'Salem Falls' and 'House Rules'. Some of her books have been adapted into movies. But I like reading the books more than watching the movies because some of the movies altered the stories. For example, in the book 'My Sister's Keeper', the little sister died but in the movie, the elder sister died. Hmmmm.....

Anyhoo, bottom line is Picoult is a great writer and I can finish reading her book in one day because it's so hard to put down the book. Currently, I am reading 'Perfect Match' in between doing my Phd homework.

Okay, enough procrastinating. Need to get back to my transcriptions. XD Good night people! xoxo

I love the way you kick

Alhamdulillah I am now 23 weeks pregnant. How fast! I can't believe it myself. In about 2 weeks, I will be back in New Zealand, InsyaaAllah. I am sad to leave all the people I love in Malaysia but at least I have this little baby with me to accompany me. My husband won't be coming with me so at least I have a part of him with me throughout the journey. He will come and join me in December, InsyaaAllah. Until then, we have to make do with Skype. Thanks to technology.

The doctor predicted it's going to be a girl! Awwww I have a little princess inside me, Alhamdulillah. I don't really mind what gender the baby is going to be since it's our first child. Boy or girl, I would be happy and love the baby to the moon and back. But of course my husband and I are ecstatic that we are having a girl, InsyaaAllah if the doctor's prediction is correct. Yeay! I can buy cute dresses and hairbands!

Now that the baby is big (about the size of an eggplant), I can feel it kicking and sometimes I think I can feel her hiccups. Subhanallah! Oh what lovely feelings when that happens. Every time I feel the baby move or hiccup, I feel relieved. When I don't feel anything, I get worried and tried to talk to the baby so that she will respond to my voice. When she responded, voila! I'm a happy mum. If she didn't, I console myself that she is sleeping. After all, babies sleep 12-14 hours in the womb so you can't expect the baby to move all the time.

On a religious note, I read in one of my books that it's good for a pregnant mum to read these surahs below for herself and for the baby in the womb... InsyaaAllah benefits will come out of it.

Al Fatihah
Surah Maryam
Surah Luqman
Surah Yusuf
Surah Hujurat
Surah Yassin
Surah At Taubah
Surah An Nahl

Lastly, I am thankful to Allah for this wonderful gift and we (my husband and I) promise we will try our best to be good parents for this baby. Please pray for our safety and health. May the baby be with me until 40 weeks in the womb and may she come out in this world healthy and beautiful, InsyaaAllah.
